Tesla has announced the availability of 7 official color wraps for the Model 3 and Model Y in its online store and mobile app, giving owners the option to change the exterior color of their vehicles without the need for a full repaint. These new exterior options are a compelling choice for those seeking to personalize their vehicles.
Tesla says that these color change decals are made using a self-repairing urea-based film that protects the vehicle’s paint from scratches, nicks and spin damage. The film appears to be a tinted paint protection film that is thicker and more expensive than typical vinyl films.
Consumers can choose from seven different colors, including ceramic white, gray, black, rose gold, blue, green and red. The first three colors are priced at US$7,500 each, while the last four are priced at US$8,000 each.
These options are really not cheap, and while the purchase price already includes the cost of the body-color wraps change at a Tesla service center, it’s important to note that the wrapping process can take anywhere from 5 to 7 business days, and the replacement vehicle won’t be available during that time.
Currently, Tesla only offers this service at two specific locations in Southern California, West Covina and Carlsbad. Additionally, these color decals are only available on Tesla Model 3 and Model Y models from 2023 or newer. Consumers will also need to purchase these decals through the Tesla app and will need to use version 4.23.0 or later of the app.
